charlie hebdo, one year later

L’Alliance française du Manitoba and the newspaper La Liberté are joining forces to commemorate Charlie Hebdo, just over a year after the French magazine was the target of terrorist attacks.

In order to mark this anniversary, we are organizing a discussion and film evening at the Red River College, the institution that is training many of our future journalists.

Professionals from the journalism field will launch the night with a panel segment during which important themes relating to freedom of speech will be addressed. These experts include James Turner (journalism professor and former journalist at the Winnipeg Free Press and the CBC), Bernard Bocquel (La Liberté) and Noah Erenberg (Community News Commons).

This panel discussion will be followed by the subtitled French documentary L'humour à mort, a film that reminisces about the events of January 2015 in Paris.
