that our countries are going through? Following the publication of a study that announces the possible disappearance of a part of humanity
by 2100, Cyril Dion and Mélanie Laurent left with a team of four people to investigate in ten countries to understand what could cause this
catastrophe and especially how to avoid it. During their journey, they met the pioneers reinventing agriculture, energy, the economy,
democracy, and education. By putting together these positive and concrete initiatives that are already working, they begin to see what
tomorrow's world could be...

The actress Layla Metssitane will do a theatrical reading in French on Thursday March 3, 2022 at 7:00 p.m., on Marguerite Duras' La
Douleur.
The last war, Marguerite Duras experienced it both as a woman whose husband had been deported, as a member of the resistance, but also, as a writer. In 1944, she created the newspaper Libre which was the only newspaper to make lists of names, prisoners and deportees. Lucid,
surprised, sometimes desperate, she kept a diary during these years, wrote texts inspired by everything she saw and experienced, the people she met or confronted. It is these stories and excerpts from her diary that Marguerite Duras has collected under the title La
Douleur.

locale that's not keen on the talking cure, but she also needs to navigate a confusing bureaucratic circus in order to get the right papers

Kim Thúy is a Montreal-based award-winning novelist and short story writer. Born in Saigon, Vietnam, she and her family were among
thousands who fled the country on boat after the fall of Saigon. They later settled in Quebec, without speaking French. Now, Kim Thúy
writes in French and is a very successful author!

We are looking for performers to participate in Make Music 2020! Presented by the 9 Alliances Françaises of Canada, Make Music will
feature amateur and professional artists from different linguistic and ethnic backgrounds, to represent Canada’s diversity. This celebration
will take place online on June 21st.
We are pleased to present our Comic Contest in collaboration with the Alliance Française network in Canada! You are invited to prepare a
short comic, in French, on the following theme: “While human beings are confined, animals take back their power on earth…” Draw the
rest of the story! Participants will be divided into three age categories: children (7-12 years old), teens (13-17 years old) and adults.
Our now famous Alliance Française French Film Festival is back this year for the 6th time! On the menu : comedies, drama movies,
documentaries, animation films...and more!
Come with your friends, family or by yourself to share a fun night with us by playing board games in French. As usual, we will pick a new
selection of games that will entertain both kids and adults. Do not hesitate to bring your own favourite board game. This event is opened

A global event to celebrate the flow of ideas between countries, cultures, topics, and generations
The Alliance Française du Manitoba, in partnership with the Institut Français, the Canadian Museum for Human Rights, ICI Manitoba, and CBC Manitoba, will hold the second edition of The Night of Ideas on January 31st 2020, starting 5PM, at the Canadian Museum for Human Rights (85 Israel Asper Way, Winnipeg). On this occasion, the Alliance Française du Manitoba will join the program of Friday Night Rights offered by the Museum.
The Night of Ideas is a free global event initiated by the Institut Français and celebrated around the world in order to celebrate the flow of ideas between countries, cultures, topics and generations. Each year, the Night of ideas gives the opportunity to discover the latest discoveries in knowledge and arts, to listen to the ones who contribute to bring more ideas to their field, and to take part in the discussion about the main issues of our times.
The Alliance will be closed from December 22 to January 1, 2020 (inclusive). We will reopen on January 2 for our regular
hours. But don't worry, you can still register for courses on our website!
Alliance Française of Manitoba is planning a series of 60 min Carnival-themed arts and crafts after-school activities, en français,
from February 4th to 7th, from 4:30 PM to 5:30 PM! Participants will be familiarized
with French terminology relating to Carnivals, in a fun and dynamic setting. Every day, the focus will be on a different art scene: theatre
with puppets, magic tricks, singing, dance.

Get your child in the Christmas Spirit for our December CinéFEEL movie screening! We have chosen the cartoon Charlie’s Christmas. They will
discover the story of a child found in a basket on a cold winter day, by the postman Grand-Jacques. Charlie goes everywhere with his rattle

For the October CineFEEL, we chose a beautiful movie dealing with handicap and the impact it has in a family. Elisa, a 17 years old
teenager wants to enjoy her summer in the Vercors region in France. But things won't go as planned : her mom breaks
up with her dad , leaving them taking care of Marion, her disabled sister. That heavy responsability will change her life
and challenge her feelings. Free entrance + pop corn !
The 2019 edition of Thin Air, the Winnipeg international writers festival, is just around the corner. From
September 24th to September 29th the city will celebrate literature with a dozen of events planned throughout the
week. The Alliance Française, always supporting francophone literature, is delighted to host a conversation night
with 3 talented authors: Jean Chicoine, Monique Larouche, Christian Guay-Poliquin. If you want to have an idea about
the books that will be discusted during the event, you can check out Le fermier de la noosfère, L’art
du Tic-Tac
and Le poids de la neige. It will be a unique opportunity for you readers to share your thoughts and
questions with the authors. Whetheryou are an Alliance Française student, francophone or Francophile, you are more

Sink or Swim, one of the greats movies of the year, comes back on screen! Wednesday, August 28th at sunset, come and enjoy this
movie under the stars in the parking at the back of the Alliance Française. This comedy is the story of a group of 40-somethings on the
verge of a mid-life crisis who decide to form their local pool’s first ever synchronized swimming team – for men. But what was essentially
fun times turns into a genuine challenge when the team decides to take part into the world cup in Norway. Laughs guaranteed! The movie
will be presented with English subtitles. Free entrance.

Movies under the stars continues with the screening of the cartoon Kirikou and the Sorceress. It will take place in the
splendorous Saint-Boniface Cathedral ruins.
The movie is about the story of the young Kirikou, who was born in an
African village bewitched by the crual Karaba. Kirikou will try to free the village from the spell of this evil witch.
Don't forget to bring your camping chair ! The cartoon is appropriate for kids. Free entrance.
Ciné/Feel returns in June with the screening of the movie Maestro. A refreshing and poetic comedy full of humour! Pio Marmai plays Henri, a
young and ambitious actor finds himself involved in a auteur film. Charmed by an actress on the set, the filming does not quite go as he had
planned.
CDEM and Alliance française du Manitoba are launching a Movies Under the Stars program this summer for the first time, with a view to
providing the province’s bilingual municipalities with an opportunity to hold outdoor movie nights in French.

The Martinican poet Véronique Kanor and the Indigenous poet from Canada Tyler Pennock have been selected
to
participate in a writing residency and a French-Canadian tour organised by the Centre for Creative Writing & Oral Culture at the
University of Manitoba, the Alliance Française du Manitoba, the Maison Gabrielle Roy, the Maison de la Poésie de Nantes and the cultural
services of the French Embassy in Canada.
From April 25th until May 1st 2019, the two poets will gather for one week of writing residency at the Alliance Française du
Manitoba and at the Maison Gabrielle Roy (Winnipeg).
Presented by Plug In ICA, and hosted at the Winnipeg Art Gallery in their auditorium on Tuesday, April 9, 2019, the legendary Buren will
give a public talk detailing his bold and categorical work.
Plug In ICA presents this talk as part of our STAGES Speaker Series in anticipation of the STAGES biennial in 2019. For STAGES 2019, Buren
will remount a work for the first time since 1981 titled, Limited Time Only!. This site-specific intervention was initially produced in
Toronto in a St. James Town apartment block for which Buren offered to wallpaper apartments within the building with his signature stripes.
Residents of the apartment block could have an artwork by Buren for the minimal cost of the wallpaper itself: $50 for one wall, $125 for an
entire room. Plug In ICA will work with Buren to restage this work in Winnipeg in August 2019, selecting an apartment block similar in
history and economic status to the original, offering its residents an opportunity to have a work by Buren installed in their homes for a
Limited Time Only!. The title emulates language used in advertising, but references the tenuous and precarious nature of the renter.

For the International Day of Francophonie, Alliance française du Manitoba is happy to screen "Sans Maman", by Marie-France
Guerrette, a franco-albertan filmmaker (who will be present for this occasion!)
On August 31, 1995, Guerrette's family life takes a dramatic turn. Mona, the mother, passes at 42 of the remnants of a breast cancer,
leaving behind a husband and two daughters, Mylène and Marie-France, to which she bequeaths a tape containing the testimony of her life.
How to recover, as a child, from the death of a parent? By recording her life, as well as her family's, Marie-France Guerrette welcomes us
into her mourning. The archives, sometimes flawed or imprecise and filled with emotions, build the history of her family. Marked with
authenticity, these interviews represent a freeing speech. Along her path, she discovers a heavy legacy: genetical cancer. This documentary
has had many positive points on Marie-France's life - ease the mourning process, incitate a call for action, as well as anchoring her in
the side of the livings.

Each year the Institut français, which links the Alliance française network, holds a global "Nuit des idées," or "Night of Ideas." This is a
celebration of thought and an opportunity to renew intellectual debate "à la française." It is an evening of dynamic and engaging exchanges that highlight contemporary debates in a creative and multidisciplinary way. This year's theme is "Face au present," or "Facing the
present."

the Cercle Molière during the 2017-2018 season, and discover the processes of the theatrical creation.
The projection will be followed by a session of questions and answers from Les Productions Rivard and the directeur Gabriel Tougas.

organized by La Maison Gabrielle-Roy and the Alliance Française du Manitoba in partnership with the Gabrielle Roy Library in Quebec City. No
matter the number of mistakes on your copy, the result will remain anonymous! Registered participants may win participation prizes. No

In the mood for Melville is a documentary about the famous French filmmaker.
Jean-Pierre Melville, his 14 movies and his 25 years-long career is an international legend.
His artwork, filled with dark atmospheres, is pretty unique and has made him one of the leader of the neo-noir movement.
His influence has reached Asia, and some of the most renowned filmmakers there testify to depict the impact he has had on their art.
The movie will take place at the Alliance, on 934 Corydon. Entrance is free and open to all.

The Alliance Française du Manitoba is a proud partner of Cinémental,the Francophone film festival in Manitoba. This year, we are presenting "At War" with Vincent Lindon. Despite heavy financial sacrifices on the part of their employees and record profits that year, the management of Perrin Industries decides to shut down a factory. The 1100 employees, led by their spokesman Laurent Amédéo, decide to fight this brutal decision, ready to do everything to save their jobs. In French with English subtitles.

This year again, we are a proud partner of Cinémental, the francophone films festival in Manitoba. We present Custody , a 2017 French film directed by Xavier Legrand. It was screened in the main competition section of the 74th Venice International Film Festival where it won the Silver Lion. Supremely crafted and performed, this contemporary French thriller about a broken marriage and ensuing custody battle is a gripping, edge-of-seat drama that never lets up. In French with English subtitles.
This award-wining adaptation of King Ubu has garnered much praise – the objects' raw form and the performance's frenetic pace are perfectly suited for Jarry's cruel farce. Since its creation, Ubu has been performed over 850 times in Québec, Mexico, Brazil and Europe! Two armies of French baguettes face each other in a stand-off as tomato bombs explode, an egg beater hovers over fleeing troops and molasses-blood splatters on fork-soldiers as they charge Père Ubu. Anything goes as Poland's fate is sealed on a tabletop! Multiple film references spice things up as two performers hammer-out a small-scale fresco of grandiose buffoonery.
Slimane Zeghidour is a writer and journalist. Born in Kabylie in 1953, he grew up in Erraguene, a regroupment camp, and learned to read and write with young French people. He moved to Paris in 1974 and began as an illustrator for Libération and Pilote before embarking on a career as a writer and reporter (Le Monde, Le Nouvel Observateur, Géo, Télérama, El País, La Vie). He is the chief editor at TV5 Monde. He is the author of La Vie quotidienne à La Mecque (Hachette, 1989) which received the Clio Prize for History, Le Voile et la bannière (Hachette, 1990), L’Algérie en couleurs with Tramor Quemeneur (Les Arènes, 2011). The discussionw will be followed by a panel organized in collaboration with Accueil Francophone and Réseau Immigration Francophone. This will take place at the Maison des Artistes Visuels Francophones, on 219 Provencher. Free.

What lessons can be gathered from a discussion between two writers who share stories that make us question the very ideas of morality and forgiveness? Join Rhéal Cenerini and François Gilbert at Alliance Française for Sowing Compassion, one of the first sessions of the Thin Air International Writers Festival.
